Accord Voices for Children/CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Description:The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program provides specially trained community volunteers, appointed by a Family Court judge, to work on individual cases of children in foster care.

The CASA Program is part of a national network of programs dedicated to reducing the amount of time a child spends in foster care. By monitoring the individual cases and advocating for system improvements, CASAs facilitate prompt placement in a permanent home.

The increasing number of children in foster care in New York State is one of our state's most troubling problems. The involvement of CASA volunteers in the Family Court is an effective way to help children in foster care find a permanent home.

CASA Volunteers make a huge impact on the world one child at a time.

Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers appointed by the Broome County Family Court to ensure that the best interests of children are met. The CASA looks at the facts of the case, recommends a course of action to the judge (when appropriate), facilitates the resolution of any problems and monitors progress toward established goals.
